Alexander Stubb on Today's Security Threats and the Warsaw Security Forum

What is the biggest security threat today?

Alexander Stubb, Finland, former Prime Minister of Finland. I think the biggest security threat is a combination which is linked to our ideology, liberal internationalism. In other words, that we are rejecting democracy, rejecting market economy. and also rejecting globalization.

Then obviously, geographically, we are in an era of heightened tensions between the East and the West, almost like the Cold War. So I think we're living in interesting times.

Will the US elections shape the outlook?

Yes. I think a lot of it is probably linked to the US presidential elections. So you can either come out of that as an optimist, or you can come out of that as a pessimist.

What do you think of this conference?

Well, three points. Number one, I think it's very well organized. You can see that we're trying to make this into a big symposium, and it certainly is.

Number two, I think it's been intellectually. Very rewarding you have a lot of people who are sharing ideas and number three I think from a material perspective It's interesting to see a lot of the big players in the security and defense Promoting their own products over here, so it's best of both worlds
